It’s really not about how hard you work for your business; it’s how smart you work on it. You could be working 18 hours a day everyday and yet don’t see any money coming in. Here are 7 tips that you can use to help in your learning curve and to become more effective in your online business.

1. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is so it is best to trust your own instincts. Such get rich offers often come from a certain group of people who are very good at what they do best – scamming people.

2. Never be lured by attractive ‘get rich’ schemes or websites that pay you to read emails because these are scams. If you are still in doubt, check to see if an address or a telephone number is provided or send an email to them just to see what response you will get.

3. In this business you have to think and remain positive. Why do you think 95 percent of new online businesses failed before they ever got started?  Achieving success in an Internet Business takes a lot of time but most importantly it requires total dedication.

4. While there are many things that you should engage professional help for your business, there are equally many others that you can learn yourself even during your spare time. Find the time to learn about html, how to create a simple video or even building a simple website. You know you are going to be relying on this knowledge all the time in your Internet Marketing journey.

5. Stay organized. As you progress in your learning there will be more activities both planned and otherwise and you should create relevant folders and files for easy retrieval from your computer. You run your business alone so to be able to access any file, software or an important email in seconds helps to expedite all the work to be done.

6. Is spending some money really necessary for your new online business? The Internet has changed drastically over the last 5 years or so. Today we have seen a massive increase in the number of new business opportunities available to you to invest in. So are all the software and automation tools you see in the market that have been developed to reduce so much labor intensive work of the marketer. So it is important to keep your options open should you need to spend some money that can benefit your business.

7. Most marketers will tell you it is easy to make money with a blog so don’t forget to set up your blog which is really an extension of your website. It may be used for monetization as your Internet Business grows but most successful marketers rely on their blog for good communication, building relationships with others and gaining their trust.  They all help to give you more sales and ultimately more income for your online business.

Here are 2 easy ways that you could use to start getting all your web traffic to convert well to sales. This could well open up new doors to new opportunities after you have learned how to make big affiliate commissions.

Affiliate Programs

If you run a website that has great information on a specific product, you could join as an affiliate to an affiliate network that sells this product. You then promote this affiliate product and generate leads for this company to earn commission. The two most popular names most marketers turn to are Amazon and Commission Junction and they have some of the best products that appeal to the buying consumers.

Well now that you have good traffic coming to your website, the key is to promote your affiliate products in the best possible ways on your website. Remember that most people like to buy but don’t like to be sold meaning don’t push your sales too hard. The good thing is that both Amazon and Commission Junction  allow you to easily customize their ‘link and banner’ to blend it into your website quite naturally. When your visitors visit their websites, they have already made up their mind to purchase the product.

Google Adsense

Most people have found Adsense to be one of their best ways to monetize their website. How profitable you can become depends largely on your niche type, how targeted your traffic is and most importantly where you place these ads on your website.

There is no hard and fast rule and what works well for some websites may not be so for others. It is important therefore to experiment using different placements and ad types. However one of the most effective techniques most people agree that works is to try to blend it into your web page content and making it look like a part of your content.

Create Your Own Sub Market

If you are looking for a good niche market to target you probably learned from your Internet Business Coaching that it should be something that really interests you. You should also look at products that have good demand and that people are buying them like bees to honey. This may be a good start to your niche research, but this alone is not enough because every other affiliate marketer is promoting this same product in the same niche market. So what can you do? Create your own sub-market.

If you are still unsure of the importance of creating a sub-market, just take a look at this example. Do you know that the ‘Weight Loss’ niche is over saturated and there is just too much competition?  If an online marketer wants to target this market, he has to know what he is getting himself into, especially if he is a relatively new Internet Marketer. An experienced marketer however will know it is better to target a sub-market like “Weight Loss for women over 40″

The advantage of sub-market

1. You sub-segment by demographics to target a different and specific group of people looking for a solution to the same problem (weight loss in our example)

2. Instead of advertising your product with your usual keywords which everybody else is targeting like “weight Loss”, focus on your targeted group of people like “weight loss for women over 40″. In this way, you can be sure you will get very targeted traffic coming to your website.

The Right Focus

1. One of the best affiliate marketing tips that you can take away from this post is: “Sell to people who are already buying”. When there is great demand for a product, you may have to do a little more in-dept research to determine how to beat a lot of your competition and at the same time take advantage of the high demand for the product.

2. Focus on evergreen products. The mistake that most new marketers make is that they tend to focus on hot products or those that cater to the current trends. The truth about such products is that what is popular today may never be so tomorrow. Focus on evergreen or “timeless” products that you know people are always buying due to a need, passion or an obsession.

Here’s how you can find out if you are actually driving away your visitors from your website.

1. Are you guilty of not giving enough information on your homepage as to what your website is all about? Don’t make your visitors who arrived at your website feel like they have come to the wrong site. It may be a good time to make some changes to your homepage so that it presents a clear picture of what they can expect to find before navigating to the inside pages for more details.

2. Try to critique your own homepage objectively as though it belongs to someone else and you may find lots of things you don’t quite like. Are you overwhelmed with too much information or do you get swarmed with links and banners everywhere?  Many marketers have learned from Internet Business Coaching that having a good site navigation improves the visitor experience so that people don’t have to struggle to navigate your website.

3. Do you have your ‘about me’ or ‘contact’ pages visibly shown on your homepage? Well that is assuming you have written these pages in the first place. If not you should get that done now as these are simple one page information that most visitors read first. More like sizing you up and finding out what sort of person you are before moving on to other pages.

4. Check if any of your web pages have broken links because no visitors like to click a link that leads to a ‘404 error’ page. You risk not just losing your visitors but search engines having trouble crawling your site. You know both of them have disastrous consequences.

Why is One Way Link Better?

Most search engines consider a website who receives a one-way link as a vote of confidence from the other website and for Google, is almost certainly used in their algorithm for search engine ranking calculations.

How do you get One Way Incoming Links

For your website to follow a natural link structure you do not have to ask anyone to link to you much like a quality website like Wikipedia in which many people would have no second thoughts about linking to it. Under what circumstances would one-way Incoming Links take place for you and when would online marketers be willing to link to other websites? Well this is my favorite method: Guest Posting.

Guest Posting

It’s an open secret that obtaining backlinks from authority sites to your website can give a tremendous boost to your search engine ranking, which then translates to more traffic and sales. The benefit of guest posting on such a website far exceeds the one to two hours of work you take to write your post.

You may not realize the full potential of the power of guest posting especially if it is on a well-established A-list blogger, until your blog post gets published. The one-way link that the blog owner gives the guest poster is good, but don’t underestimate the full potential that goes beyond this. Just visualize the thousands of Twitter followers who will tweet your post and bookmark it to hundreds of social networking sites and you will know how viral your one-way linking can become. All that you need is just to write a great blog post with a compelling title to make this happen.

While the average blogger may not have too many opportunities to guest post on many A-list bloggers, nevertheless the benefits of guest posting are quite obvious with both bloggers gaining from the mutual arrangement. Besides the one-way links, it is also a terrific traffic generation method in getting many new visitors to your website.

Hosting Limitations

For most people when they began their online business, they started with a small website and because they wanted to keep costs to the bare minimum, opted for a shared hosting plan. So while these plans are generally good and cheap and worked well at first, they may not serve well when their website has, over the years grown in size and traffic.

Some peopled called it a good problem; nevertheless, it is important that you check with your  web host how much traffic can your current hosting plan support.

Switch To Dedicated Hosting

If your website traffic becomes a real issue with your web host, there are other options that you can consider to rectify the problem. That may be the time when you have to really ditch your shared hosting plan since your website has outgrown it and now unable to continue supporting the increased demands of your website. You should consider a VPS (virtual private server) or a dedicated server to serve your needs better.

Such changes are not your typical run of the mill type, but it is important to remember what you can and should do when it happens. Taking precautions and quick actions may save some unnecessary charges imposed by your web host.  But it is the bigger issue that you want to avoid happening when your website gets temporarily shut down after exceeding your hosting plan’s bandwidth option.

2010 is a turning point for your Internet business. Those who understand the game will make more money and work less. Those who don’t get it will struggle to build a real business.

2009 is gone for good. It will never come back.

I must say that last year wasn’t like the previous years. Lot of slaps… Google, the FTC, Ezinearticles… It seems that everyone is after “thin” affiliates.

I’ve been preaching that you should play the “quality” game for years. Too many so called Internet experts claim that you can make it with “ok products”. Hmm, this was possible a couple of years ago, but not today. Not with the web 2.0.

Let me tell you where my online business is going in 2010.

1. More Paid Advertising

In the past, I really used to like the “so called” free traffic sources. Don’t get me wrong, they still work, and you can still make money with article marketing, blog commenting, forum marketing and all the others.

The only thing is that those methods take a lot of your precious time.

Last year, I’ve mostly used paid traffic method, and although I used the free traffic generation sources, I outsourced most of it.

Recently, I started in the media buying world I bought the traffic evolution program, and I am a very satisfied customer. I learned everything I needed on the subject, and I already started. So far, I think that I have great success with this. It came handy for me because I’ve never been a fan of Adwords.

So for me, it’s Media Buying.

What about adwords? As Eben advised in his get altitude program, it’s good to outsource. Once I am ready to go big with adwords, I think I’ll just get a pay per click management guy to take care of Adwords for me.

Adwords became too complicated lately. Better to let the pros do it.

2. More products

Anyone doing business on the Internet should have this in mind. The more product you make, the more money you should earn.

If you develp quality products that your market want, they will sell by themselves.

3. Focus on list building

I’m already doing this, but what I mean by this is a better segmentation.

4. Better relationship with my subscribers

Heck, there is no point in building a list if you don’t interact with your subscribers. You want to help them to get where they want. You want to over deliver.

My strategy to turn subscribers into buyers is pretty simple. There are a lot of ways to turn prospects into raving fans of your product, and the one that works best for me is:

Offering a high quality product for pennies of the dollars to your subscribers. Once they buy your product (the first sale is the hardest) and find out the super high quality, they will be pretty receptive when you announce your second product.

Some of my subscribers tell me that they will buy anything I release in the future. No need to tell you that this makes me really happy…

5. Video marketing

Video marketing is something you can’t live without. If you didn’t start yet, just make a tutorial in your niche and upload it to youtube. The next step is to leave comments on other people’s videos. It’s pretty easy to do, and you really want to get your videos out there.

If you want to start an online business, you need to start thinking like a business owner.

A big mistake that beginners make is that they do everything they can to “make money”. If they don’t see money coming in their clickbank pr paypal account from day one, they start bashing their mentor or the ebook they just bought, etc.

If all you have to say is “I submit articles to make money”, he won’t understand. If he can’t understand, it’s probably because your do not have a real Internet business, but a “money maker”.

You need to go from the employee (workhouse, hard worker) mindset to the business mindset.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with making $500.00 per month from the Internet, but is this really what you want? and can you stop working and continue to earn those $500.00?

Here are two questions (there are more, but these two will get you started) to help you know if you are doing the right thing online.

1. Do you have a website?

If all you have is a bunch of articles on directories and a couple of Squidoo lenses, you need to rethink your strategy right away.

In fact, there’s nothing wrong with Squidoo, hubpages and other free blogger blogs. Don’t get me wrong, I use them to market my own websites.

The only problem is when you think that it’s your business. It’s not. You are just helping the guy (Chris or Seth G., etc.) to have more page on his site and make more money with adsense and other affiliate programs…

Remember: you must always use your own website to promote affiliate offers.

2. Can you sell your business rigth now and make thousands of dollars?

I don’t know for you, but for me, a business is an asset. Whether it’s online or offline, you could sell it right now and make five or six figures next month.

I’ve done it offline (in the year 2000), and sold my pizza delivery business (the name was “pizza king” by the way) for a lot of money and make a big profit.

Can you do this?

If not, my advice to you is to start building your own business today.
