Lesson: How Often Should You Post To Your Blog?

Did you create your affiliate blog yet?

If not, do it right now, read the previous lesson to create your affiliate blog (open in a new window): How to Create your blog with blogger or wordpress

If you already took action and created your great blog, make sure that you create a new post every single day. In fact, you just need to do this for three full months (after that, three posts per week will be enough).

When you post every single day, Google will see your blog as a valuable source for your market, and as a result, the search engines will send a lot of traffic your way.

Later on, we are going to talk about choosing the right keywords to get even more traffic. But for now, just write about my Online Paycheck Blueprint product.

Below is a link to several of my own articles. You can even choose by categories (at the bottom of the page)

You will need rewrite these articles on your own words, because if you are lazy and decide to copy and paste, it won’t work (I mean that you will not get all the traffic). You need to rewrite them, it’s not that difficult.

This works whether you have your own hosted WordPress blog, or a free blogger blog. What is important is to add valuable content and driving traffic.

It works like this:

Your blog post should be 300 word long, it doesn’t need to be a long post, but what’s important is to add value to your readers. A good idea is to create some tips for your reader like Patrice (my first online mentee ever) did on his blog at Learn French Online

Blogs are powerful because your readers don’t have the impression to be sold.

Remember: People hate being sold to, but they like to buy.

YOUR HOMEWORK:

Write a new blog post a day.

Why?

Because you will start receiving traffic to your affiliate blog.

Search engines absolutely love blogs, and the more you post, the more visitors Google and other search
engines will send your way.

Remember: to make money with affiliate marketing, you need a LOT of targeted traffic.

Blogging is one way to drive traffic to your affiliate offer, and we are going to cover tons of other traffic generation techniques.

Knowing your affiliate marketing metrics will transform you from affiliate novice to super affiliate. Earning six figure a year with affiliate marketing is possible when you know your numbers.

It is important for you to know your metrics because whether you use free or paid traffic to make affiliate sales, you will have an edge over your competition.

The Affiliate Marketing Metrics Formula:

Below is the affiliate marketing metrics formula

- Traffic * Click Trough Rate (CTR) = Traffic to Merchant Site
- Traffic to Merchant * Merchant’s Conversion Rate (CVrate) = Nb Affiliate sales
- Nb of Affiliate Sales * (Product’s price * Commission Amount) = Total Affiliate sales

This is the formula that you absolutely need to have beside your laptop.

Now, I admit that even I’m giving you the formula, it may be difficult to apply it. For this reason, I decided to give you a concrete example…

Let’s say that you have a website with 3000 monthly visitors, and that 10% of the people who visit your site click on your affiliate link and land on your merchant’s site.

You’ll get:

- Traffic * Click Trough Rate (CTR) = Traffic to Merchant Site

3000* 10% = 300

That means that you send 300 visitors per month to the merchant’s site.

Then, let’s say that the merchant’s conversion rate is 2%.

You’ll get:

- Traffic to Merchant * Merchant’s Conversion Rate (CVrate) = Nb Affiliate sales

300 * 2% = 6 Affiliate sales

And finally, if the product costs $45 and you get 75%.

You’ll get:

- Nb of Affiliate Sales * (Product’s price * Commission Amount) = Total Affiliate sales

6 * ($45 * 75%) = $202.50

That means that for 3000 visitors per month, you will make $202.50 with this site.

Just build 5 sites like this one, and you’ll earn $1,012.50 per month.

Why is it important for you to know this affiliate marketing formula?

The answer is because you will be able to know how much you will make whenever you create a new affiliate marketing site.

But what is even more important is that you will be able to IMPROVE your marketing efforts and INCREASE your sales.

Whenever you want to make more money, all you need is to increase one of these metrics.

You can improve the following:

1. Traffic (Add more traffic strategies)

As an example, instead of getting 3000 visitors, you can get 4000 visitors per month.

2. CTR (Learn how to create better converting pages)

You can manage to get a CTR of 15%.

3. Your Commission (Choose another product)

You can choose a higher priced product.

Let me tell give the four letter word that will help you to make more money online next year.

Here is the word I promised: MORE.

“Help people MORE, Help MORE people, do MORE of what’s proven to work, and take MORE time away from your computer.”

Everybody know this word, but I am going to show you how to use this word to cash in in 2010.

Ask yourself: How much did you earn monthly in 2009?

Let’s say you earned $300 per month on average?

Here is what you need to do:

1. Stop

STOP everything you are doing and …

THINK …

You need to understand that if you are still at $300 per month, there is something that you need to change to go to the next level.

You are well on your way to earn $1000 per month, and then more than that because…

Obviously, you are doing something right.

This leads us to …

2. Plan

Whenever you start a new project, you should write down your plan. Your business plan is nothing complicated.

Having a plan is crucial for your online business.

In fact, if you don’t have a plan right now, you should stop WHATEVER you are doing RIGHT NOW and write your plan.

Just write down your slogan: “What do you want to accomplish online?”

Let’s say you are selling (or promoting) a “learn Spanish” software. If I was you, I’d just write on a simple physical paper:

Wait …

The wrong way to do it is: “I’ll get people to buy this software even if it doesn’t help them to speak Spanish because I’ll make money and this is the only important thing for me”

Well, I prefer this way:

“I want to help people to learn to speak Spanish because this will help them improve their lives”

It seems pretty simple, but by doing this, you are going to change your mindset, and people will feel that you really want to help them, and they’ll start to TRUST you.

Many newbies fail online because all they do is SELLING. It’s strange, and I don’t really know how, but people can FEEL (behind their screen) if you care about them or not.

It’s not really about selling, but about Helping others to get what they want.

Now that you wrote your slogan, how are you going to achieve it?

a. Will you do it alone?

Doing it alone is NOT the smart way of doing business online. Get other people to help you (outsourcing).

You can get people on Elance to do your “non money-making” job for $3 to $8 an hour.

b. What online advertising method will you use? How?

Online marketers like this word: TRAFFIC, FREE TRAFFIC. They like doing a lot of PPC, article marketing, Squidoo… while they don’t work on improving their conversions at every step of the sales process.

3. Is Traffic Better Than Conversion? or What?

I often hear people say: “I want traffic to my website”.

Do you see the mistake here?

Newbies don’t care if their website CONVERTS (into sales or subscribers). All they want is traffic! This is one of the MOST important reasons why you don’t make more money online.

It’s pretty crazy that newbies don’t talk (or even think) about conversions. ?But it’s not their fault, nobody tell them what to do after all (to know the real money making strategies in the right order, you need to get a mentor).

We’ll talk about conversion another time though. This is a very important subject that you can’t afford to avoid if you are serious about your Internet business.

The TRUTH about FREE TRAFFIC METHODS:

There is no such thing as free traffic. You are paying with YOUR time, that’s it.

Let me ask you a question? What is worth MORE for you? Time or Money? (I hope it’s time…).

But…

These traffic methods DO work, and you should use them.

The TRUTH about TRAFFIC.

You do not want to use only ONE source of traffic.

You NEED to use SEVERAL available sources of traffic, BUT with a good methodology and a plan… PLUS, you need to know your metrics (i.e. your numbers)

Let me give you 2 examples:

Example #1 (the Wrong way to do business online):

“I tried to make money with PPC, but I’ve lost $150 and made one sale of $37. I’ll never use ppc again”. or “I wrote and submitted 45 articles to EZA and only made $27, this sucks, it doesn’t work” or “I’ve made 2 sales from my articles! I’ll write articles day and night.”, etc.

Now let see …

Example #2 (the RIGHT way to do business online): I will get traffic to my offer (or lead capture page) from ppc, then with article marketing, then with press releases, then with blogs, then with web 20 sites.

In fact, traffic from several sources combined is the way to go.

To get example #2 to work even better, get others to help you. (ELance).

3. Improve

You need to earn more for doing less. How can you do this?

IMPROVE on what you are already doing.

Do you currently have a site?

If all you have is a free blog or squidoo lens, once you make money, invest in a domain and a web hosting.

If you have a website, TEST conversions. For 100 visitors, how many people do your most wanted action? 5%, 1%, 0.5%?

Numbers are going to help you improve your business by ten fold.

TRACK your marketing activities:

Example: last week, I registered and posted on various forums. In my sig file, I added a tracker link. Now, I’ll just test for several weeks, see what forums send me MORE leads and sales (note that I didn’t talk about traffic), and once I know what makes more the MORE dollar per visitor, I’ll outsource this and FOCUS on other projects.

4. list building

This is NOT Compulsory, but it helps you to earn MORE, and you should focus on building a list right from the start.

This is in a nutshell how the word MORE will help you in 2010 and beyond.

Here is a recap:

1. Stop
2. Think about what you’ve accomplished
3. Improve your marketing (your existing assets – websites, ebook version 2)
4. Focus on conversions
4. Only get traffic proven to convert
5. Outsource
6. Relax yourself
7. Believe in your abilities to become an Internet Hero (important)

And the most important of all: HELP your market to get what they want (of course, you don’t want to give everything for FREE, but make them sure to let them KNOW that you deliver and can help you. That’ s where you make more money online).

Follow these steps to create MORE projects and make MORE money.

Starting too many projects at once has many inconvenient.

Here are two of them…

1. Failure to optimize all your other projects

When you start project after projects, I bet you didn’t have enough time to properly track, test and optimize results from all your previous projects. You may be leaving a lot of money on the table.

What is the solution?

You do not want to start a new project until you completed the current one. When I say completed, I mean that this project is profitable (you earn more than what you spend, even if it is a long term projection with continuity or coaching program). For this, you have to run different split tests until you find a winner.

The logical way to do this is to outsource. For this, you need to have a system that you can give to your virtual assistants. Ultimately, your goal is to remove yourself completely from your online business. It’s not an easy task though.

2. Failure to revise your marketing

Today, I just revised a complete autoresponder series, I updated some links and made some changes to the emails, added new affiliate programs and removed others.

The more I am marketing online, the more I keep things simple because beginners are already subject to confusion and information overload. If you can help them to overcome these two problems, you should do very well online.

It’s amazing how things can change, and if you are not revising your autoresponder series (and all your other direct marketing material), I’m almost sure you are losing money right now. Sometimes, you change a link (or a tracker’s link), and you forget to update all the links in your autoresponder series. This happens to many online marketers.

On top of that, many of the affiliate programs you added into your series for automated passive income may be removed from the market now. This happens all the time (it was one of the reasons that almost forced me to create my own products, and I am glad I did), and you want to make sure that all the links in your autoresponder series are working.

Now, make sure you add some revisions in your schedule and do not start too many project at once. In fact, it’s much better to have two or three highly profitable projects than dozens of project that make little or no money.

If all you have to say is “I submit articles to make money”, he won’t understand. If he can’t understand, it’s probably because your do not have a real Internet business, but a “money maker”.

You need to go from the employee (workhouse, hard worker) mindset to the business mindset.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with making $500.00 per month from the Internet, but is this really what you want? and can you stop working and continue to earn those $500.00?

Here are two questions (there are more, but these two will get you started) to help you know if you are doing the right thing online.

1. Do you have a website?

If all you have is a bunch of articles on directories and a couple of Squidoo lenses, you need to rethink your strategy right away.

In fact, there’s nothing wrong with Squidoo, hubpages and other free blogger blogs. Don’t get me wrong, I use them to market my own websites.

The only problem is when you think that it’s your business. It’s not. You are just helping the guy (Chris or Seth G., etc.) to have more page on his site and make more money with adsense and other affiliate programs…

Remember: you must always use your own website to promote affiliate offers.

2. Can you sell your business rigth now and make thousands of dollars?

I don’t know for you, but for me, a business is an asset. Whether it’s online or offline, you could sell it right now and make five or six figures next month.

I’ve done it offline (in the year 2000), and sold my pizza delivery business (the name was “pizza king” by the way) for a lot of money and make a big profit.

Can you do this?

If not, my advice to you is to start building your own business today.
