How Do You Create Your Own Affiliate Product?

By Peter | August 27, 2010

If you are a serious affiliate marketer, you really should consider creating your own affiliate product. When you finally make this happen, you know it’s going to let you take one giant step to another level of success in your Internet Marketing journey. But what does it take to create your very own affiliate product?

1. Finding a Need

You don’t wake up one morning to decide you are going to spend the next few hours to create a nice product to sell. Well it takes a lot more planning than that. It has to start with finding a need that people want or demand in your niche.  The best place to be doing that is to visit your top forums to get some vibes on what are the liveliest discussions, debates, suggestions and just what people are looking for. They often represent a good demographic of what most other people are looking for to satisfy a need or want.

Be prepared to join in these discussions and to pay attention to what these people are telling you. Essentially you are trying to fill a need, a missing puzzle if you may and a pressing demand from a big group of people. You certainly don’t want to misunderstand people since the information you are gathering will be serving the greater good. If you get it wrong, it would be a grievous mistake as you are going to create a product that nobody has any need for.

2. What is your goal?

Now after having in mind the product you want to create, the next step takes you through what your goal is for that new product. Most people who are serious marketers never put ‘making money’ as a goal in their first product if they have thoughts of creating more products in the near future. Instead, a good goal to target is to focus on branding yourself or to get a massive number of new subscribers.

Most successful marketers have learned from Internet Business Coaching to use their first product to plan for bigger things for their business to achieve long term success. Making money on the first product is never that important. It may be this reason that in the first very affiliate program, more commission is given to affiliates to help the affiliate marketer attain these goals that he has set for himself.

3. Outsource your work

Most people get the wrong idea that when someone creates a new product he has to be responsible for anything and everything necessary to finish that product – a cradle to grave involvement. No, that is not true and you are free to outsource whatever work that you feel other people can do the job better or faster especially if it’s a little technical to you. For example you can’t make a software program even if you wanted to as that belongs to someone with the right skill and creativity to get that part of the product done. Your job however is to keep the costs down so that your final product remains affordable to all of your customers.

4. Your Product Launch Date

Once you size up the amount of work involved to put your first product together, you should determine how much time is needed to accomplish all the various tasks. Remember that you assumed responsibility for the whole project and you have to manage all the people who have been tasked all the different jobs you had assigned. Meeting the product launch date is very important because you would have communicated this date to all your customers, JV partners and other prospects.

Final Thoughts

Your first product is important because you learn what is involved in creating new products for your business. Having your own affiliate programs allow you to recruit an army of affiliates selling your products and services and is a natural step to take to learn how to make big affiliate commissions.
