Autoresponder Software And List Building – Aweber, Icontact and All…

By Franck | September 29, 2009

I just signed up for both aweber (www.Aweber.com) and icontact autoresponder softwares, and here’s my new autoresponder plan…

After three years online and dealing with many different autoresponders (I even signed up for getresponse free trial), I’ve learned a couple of things, and this could help some of you who are just getting started.

List Building Without A Good Autoresponder = List Suicide!

1. A Couple Of Mistake to Avoid At All Costs

First, avoid this mistake… I started without aweber, and over time, I’ve run into undeverability issues.

Remember, getting a GOOD autoresponder software right from the start will save you a lot of headaches. If you think that you will save money by buying a cheap autoresponder, thing again… you will lose way MORE money in the long run.

I advise you start with www.Aweber.com (or a good alternative with deliverability and tracking) right away… BUT make sure that when you register with aweber, you leave your first list to “single optin”. I’ll explain why below…

2. Already have an autoresponder?

If you are already using an autoresponder service, here is what to do:

Test it! You want to make sure that your subscribers actually get your messages and broadcasts. It’s what I did with my parabots and ebizac autoresponder. I’ve made a lot of money with parabots, and I like it, but it was time to upgrade to something more robust…

Do this little test to find out:

step 1: Register to your own list with several different email address (hotmail, aol, yahoo, gmail, etc.) and see if you get the confirmation emails.

If they end up in the spam or junk folder, it’s BAD for your bottom line. That means that many of your emails NEVER make it to your subscribers’ inbox.

What to do in this case?

Export your lists (people who actually opted in to your newsletter) into iContact autoresponder (by the way, they have a 15 day FREE trial, that’s how they got me!).

Why going with iContact when you already have aweber you ask?

Good question!

Simple, because your current subscribers will NOT have to confirm again (unfortunately, aweber don’t have this feature)

3. How To Use Your Three Lists?

Now, you have 3 different autoresponders:

1. The old one
2. Aweber
3. icontact

Here is what I suggest:

1. The old one: Don’t cancel this one unless you are able to change all your optins form on existing websites, otherwise, you are going to lose a lot of subscribers overtime.

Just keep the old one.

Take all your contact and add them to icontact. Use the awesome list segmentation feature. Overtime, you will develop a highly responsive list.

I don’t use icontact on my current sites, but I use…

2. Aweber: Start using it on your NEW sites.

You can also use them on some of your current sales pages as well. From now on, all your new pages and sites will use aweber.

You track, you segment, and you make sure that emails are delivered…

Trick: Single optin feature

When should you use it?

Use it when you do ad swap with lists owner. Even if you use a thank you page with your upsell, adding everyone in single optin is good in this occasion.

3. Icontact: Backup autoresponder

Whenever someone fail to confirm with aweber or your old autoresponder, add him to your list in icontact.

That’s it, here is my plan.

4. What To Do When Your Subscriber Buys Your Product? (or affiliate product you are promoting)

Whenever someone buy your product, make sure to remove him from your ‘prospects list’. Add him in a V.i.p list and make him some special offers only a fool can refuse…

And don’t forget those who buy from your affiliate promotion or bonuses offer. Add them in another VIP list… and send them offers they can’t refuse

What’s an offer they can’t refuse you ask?

If you are selling a product, give them free access, or free month trial, or special discount, etc.

That’s it, it’s a crayzy plan, but it works well for me.

What’s your plan, I’d like to hear how many autoresponders you currently work with? And How many autoresponders do you have? And do you have a list yet?
