4 Deadly Article Marketing Mistakes That Kill…

April 25th, 2008 · 9 Comments

… Your Profits!

Today I was studying some of my competitors on EA (like you can do with Spyfu for adwords), and I found several DUMB mistakes from top expert authors.

Want to learn more about my powerful article marketing strategy? Click here now: http://www.ArticleMarketingProfits.com

I mean people who have more than 500 articles out there. They are lucky that an article marketing quality score doesn’t exist yet…

Here are those mistakes:

1. Linking to a weebly or Squidoo type site…

You do not want to do this. You want to link to your OWN web property. Like this, you will get ALL the benefit in term of SEO and traffic.

2. Not using at least ONE keyword you want to rank for in the bio box.

For those who know me, you know that I have a top 10 ranking for ‘affiliate marketing’, and many would like to have this one… I receive free IM products every single day because of this.

Every IMer who want to find JV partner type this term in the search engine, and then send me his product for free! This is cool (I get so much that I can’t look at them all).

Anyway, link to your OWN website!

The mistake I’ve seen today that pushed me to write this post. Someone have a truckload of articles out there, but all she did is add “click here” an anchor text in the bio box!

When I went to check the post in Google, here article was in the first
position. But not her weebly and Squidoo page because of this DUMB mistake!

3. Not Building Your List!

It scares me when I see authors with hundreds or thousands of articles… WASTING all these visitors!

Build your list, build your lists and then, segment your list (this will be another post in itself).

4. Horror!

This one is really scary! When I was studying another of my competitors (with truckload of articles… see below), I clicked on some of his articles and guess what?

It was an error page!

Have a look: 1,062 Active articles, resulting in 1,407,936 views (this is the number of articles of this writer - and no, all his links are not dead… I only checked a few -)

Check your pages warriors… Don’t be another Horror story…!

So there you have it, this will increase your article marketing efforts… Guaranteed! (Especially number 4)

I’ve always found it reasonably difficult to find good content at Ezinearticles and it’s true, many of the Article Marketing “experts” have a pretty old-style approach to IM. Others have the numbers but are crap writers…or put their name to rubbish.

On the other hand, that just indicates that the field’s wide open. Get writing!

Article marketing seems to be the way to go. What are the copyright and duplicate content issues involved? Also where do you get the best affiliate news articles?

Another one is not deep linking within your website but only to the top level domain.

Another is not putting your website url in without linking it. Some sites strip out the html but this way your site still shows up in the resource box to a reader. It doesn’t give you back links but a reader may still find your site.

And one more I have seen lately is writing an article about one topic, say gardening, and then linking to a site about psychic readings in the resource box. Huh?!

    VERY NICE POST!! BRAVO!!

Seriously, most marketers seem to miss a lot of these points entirely, and then are left wondering what is going? Why aren’t they seeing the results they want? One point that wasn’t mentioned in that post however which I believe should be is the bio boxes a the end of the article. One of the most important parts of an article that is often overlooked. If the bio box isn’t going to attract the visitor and sell him/her on spending their time to visit your site…what are you in it for anyway? Thanks again for the post! :)

Too true, and I really appreciate the idea about using keywords in your resource box. I have not been doing that and now it is time to implement that method. Also, some of the main horrors I see are really bad grammar. You should try to double-check (and triple-check if need be) so that your article reads correctly.

    HI:

I enjoyed the post very much. I am trying to learn.

    I don’t understand something.

    First, what is a weeby?

Second, in number one, you say don’t do a weeby or a squidooo.

In number two, you looked for this lady’s article in google and found it but not her squidoo or weeby. This was a mistake.

Why look for it if she shouldn’t do it?

    Thanks

    Jim

    Hey,

    @Andrew,

There is also a lot of good stuff on ezinearticles. Some people don’t even write to get visitors to their site, but just for branding.

@ amani, the best affiliate news articles can be found on numerous blogs and forums, or just try Google news.

    @ Sandra, thanks, awesome stuff.

@ Michelle, you are right, the bio box is very important. In fact it’s one of the most important aspect of your article with the title.

@ Grover, well said. Don’t forget to give the link juice to your site

@ Jim, weebly can be found at weebly.com. It’s a free blog platform. There are hundreds like these, and Google like them.

The mistake is not to link to a weebly or Squidoo lens.

It’s to ALWAYS do this and neglecting your OWN webiste.

I was searchin for them in Google to see if they was in Google top 10 for the keyword she targeted, but it wasn’t there…

I will write a following post to this because you are not the only one who wrote about this.

Last word: Did you submit an article yet?
