2007 What I’ve Done? Me The Lazy Affiliate Marketer

January 8th, 2008 · 10 Comments

Yes, I have a confession to make… I’m very Lazy!

This is the problem when you don’t have a boss to tell ya what to do… Today, instead of telling you what I will do in 2008, let me tell you what I’ve done last year.

Year 2007 Affiliate Marketing Overview (In a nutshell)

Before you start reading, register to the affiliate profit mentor monthly club (open in a new window, so you can continue to read when you registered)

Since this is a long post and many of you maybe working surfing, I will add the main points here:

1. Came Back To Old & Proven Marketing Strategies
2. Got out of the information overload loop
3) Took massive action towards my goals
4. Got a new coach: Eben Pagan
5. Didn’t spam my subscribers with crap products
6. Helped struggling affiliate marketers
7. Understood marketing better
8. Tried to Over Deliver
9. Planned and mindmaping everything
10. Tracking And Testing
11. Outsourced what I can outsource

Now, you can continue…

1. Back To Old Marketing Strategies

Believe me or not, but even if the web marketing techniques seems to change at light speed, what was working years ago is still working today.

I am talking about real online marketing strategies, not spamming people.

The old stuff isn’t dead… And don’t believe anyone who try to sell you “…… is dead stuff”. Heck, he wants your money!

2. Getting out of the information overload loop

Believe me, even if you KNOW it, the Internet is a tough world. Too much info.. this one say do this, and two minutes after, you read a blog post that say: warning, don’t do this!?

Then you are paralyzed, and you think..think…think, without taking action.

What I found effective to get rid of the information overload syndrome is to admit the truth: “all the stuff that I receive: I already know most of it, so why should I read more?”

It’s crazy, but it works for me. Now, I delete almost every single email that hit my inboxes (AARGH, I have too many inboxes, big problem to solve)

This information loop is one of the biggest PROBLEMS that internet and affiliate marketers have. They already know what they have to do… but they want to know more, find the last affiliate secret…

You know, in everything bad, there’s something good: I read so many newsletters, sales letters and emails that I’m getting good at copywriting!

Ok, let’s go to…

3) I took massive action towards my goals

My first goal was to reach $300 per month (reached this before in 2006). In 2007, I set this goal to $1000 a month. I reached this as well. How much I earn now? I prefer to keep this for me. What I can say is that I didn’t reach the yearly 6 figures mark yet.

I could (with God’s help) if I started to use more paid advertising techniques. Read more to find out what will happen…

After all, this is not really important for YOU. What’s important for you is how much YOU are earning…

So what I did to reach my goal and go to the next level?

A. I created my very own products:

As an affiliate, you are already creating your own products. You create viral pdfs, application softwares and other stuff. YOU are a product creator as well, even if you don’t put a price on it!

Here are mine…

1) Seo Seduction Secrets
2) The Ultimate Niche Market Research Trick
3) Affiliate Profit Mentor (Brand new: Started in 2008)

B. I created a network of sites and products

I will create a mindmap of when I have time to do so…

4. Got a new coach: Eben Pagan

Eben Pagan is my new coach, we have weekly calls with him, and they are awesome.

All my business will be re-modeled towards what I learned in the Get Altitude Program.

Eben earns $20 Millions a year, and his teaching is pure gold. It’s definitively not for “Project Quick Cash” type affiliate marketer, but if you are serious about your Internet business, his teaching is for you.

Anyway, if you don’t have a coach, get one ASAP. I’m a martial artist, and I really know how to fight (I like that!), but I have may coaches. You always need to improve.

And your coach doesn’t need to know more than you in every aspect of your business! May be you need to learn about PPC and your coach is good at it. It’s not a problem if he doesn’t know article marketing.

He is an expert at PPC and it’s what you want.

5. Not spamming my subscribers with crappy offers

I love my subscribers, because once they opted-in, it was the sign that they wanted to trust me.

I don’t want to lose this trust at any price. This is better than all the money in the world. What is money? Nothing! Stones & piece of papers… When we die, we will not take the money with us. I guarantee this!

Instead of spamming my members (I don’t like to call them list), I try to help them, give them what they want.

Actually, now I will focus all my marketing towards helping others (I knew this, but Eben really take this to the next level).

And to serve my subscribers better (in all my niches), I will turn my sites and newsletter towards membership sites.

This is good for me and for my members because I give them more value, and instead of researching more subscribers and visitors, I work with my members and they reward me with money.

Money is only a mean of exchange. You need to change your mindset. Help people, and money will come naturally.

6. I helped struggling affiliate marketers

I help everywhere I can, on forums, my members, anyone who contact me… I just help (in all my niches)

7. Understand marketing better

I read a lot in 2007, and I understand marketing better, and you know what? To become really good at marketing, you need to understand PEOPLE.

Understand what they want, what they need, their fears, frustrations.

It’s not just about thinking how they can give you their hard earned money…

8. Over Delivering

I tried to overdeliver.

9. Get a plan and mindmaping

In every I do know, I have a plan. I mindmap (on paper, I’m not mister excel and definitively not mister software…) everything to have a clear picture of what I’m doing.

I have daily plans, monthly plan (no yearly plan yet…)

You really need to know what you are doing to enhance your biz.

10. Tracking And Testing

Wow, this is important. In 2007, I didn’t give enough importance to tracking and testing, but since 2 or 3 months, I test and track everything. It;s the only way to do marketing!

If you don’t track and test, you are not a marketer!

11. Outsourcing what I can outsource

Outsourcing rock! Believe me, not outsourcing is costing you a lot of money!

I outsourced:

a. Copywriting
b. Article distribution
c. Blogging (not in all my niches)
d. Graphics and ebooks cover creation

This post is getting long… Obviously, I forgot something, but it’s not a problem. I’ve said a lot in this post.

Want to follow me step-by-step and have a look inside my business?

Here is how:

As I told you, I am going to really take care of my members, and if you didn’t register to my new affiliate profit mentor club yet, do it asap: affiliate profit mentor monthly club because there is a special limited offer for my readers and subscribers.

I’ll see you inside!

I’d really like to hear your comments and see what you did in 2007 that added to your business.

Thanks for this nice post Franck. I have started reading your blog quite regularly. Your advise is excellent. The point about ‘information overload’ is really very touchy. I myself feel the victim of this problem. Too much to read and too less to act upon. I hope to get rid of this problem soon.

Great post. You have done a lot, after reading your post I’m realizing even more that I have been doing things wrong and been in the information overload.

I want also to say that you are helping people alot my friend. You have helped me to realize that internet marketing and business is not different from offline marketing and business.

I have read marketing at the university and i am consulting businesses at offline world but I did never realize that it is the same marketing because of the information overload. After I have read your books I now understand that marketing is marketing where ever it is, offline or online.

Your Affiliate mentoring club is great and I have learnt alot from your ebook “ultimate niche market research trick” that you gave free for joining. It got more stuff in it than several books I have read from the gurus.

I hope that 2008 will be a great for you and you will take your business to the next level. I am sure of that.

    Hi Elakyaa and Mehmet,

Thank you for your kind comments.

Big mistake, it doesn’t work like this.

Frank, I’m a newbie. A newbie at doing but not at reading. Info overload is where I’ve been stuck. I heard one person say recently that you don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it started. Procrastination is an excuse for laziness. In my case anyways. Your care for people comes through in all your writting. You have sold me without selling me a thing. Your comments regarding “money” are right on. We no longer barter with apples and potatoes but with scraps of paper and chunks of metal. But the essentials of the meaning of life are unchanging and universal. We brought nothing into this world and nothing goes with us. You never see a Hurst pulling a U-Haul trailor. We need food and shelter to survive. And besides helping others with those essentials everything else is a bonus. Jesus was born in a stable at birth, had no place to lay his head as an adult, told John to take care of his mom and his death. Borrowed a tomb for his burial. Yet He is the most successful, Yea the ONLY true successful human to ever live. For He did Gods will not his own to the enth degree. He rose from the dead and is comming again someday. My our goal be to look Him in the face when he returns with no fears or regrets. God help us all through His strength, wisdom and grace. We are creatures of dust. Mere mud and blood. So lets always stay humble. Right Man? tim

    Hi Tim,

Your comment is awesome, I just want to comment on this:

“We brought nothing into this world and nothing goes with us”

Actually, we brought somthimg with us: our “good deeds” is our best contribution to this world. This is the only thing that go back with us when we die…

When someone die, three things follows him, and two things return (only one will stay with him till judgment day).

What’s this thing that follow you till judgment day? Your good deeds!

And yes, we should always remain humble, because we were created from a drop of water…

It’s amazing how people think themselves important because they accumulated stones and piece of papers…

Welcome to the Affiliate Profit Mentor Monthly club, I really hope it will help you to set uo a real Internet business.

Information overload is our worst ennemy on the Internet… too much info.

    Franck.

Hey nice blog my friend. Affiliate marketing is the fastest growing business in world. However its not that easy as it looks. Obviously you need advanced knowledge about

affiliate marketing . If you are dead and broke , you can learn most of the startup tricks via marketing forums.

  • 10 Affiliate // May 8, 2008 at 4:17 pm

It’s true that you can learn in forums, but there is a lot of misinformation there.

It’s much better to get a mentor (or someone you follow) from the ground up.

I’m a martial artist, and if someone want to learn any martial art, I’ll tell him to get a coach and NOT to look how everyone is doing it.

This leads to wasting a lot of time.
